    I don't like that you use power tools and could have wasted less wood if you were not using power tools by fitting the contour of your eagle with minimum lost wood and remove it by hand and chisel.

      goognam goognws Well guess what, it’s his wood-shop. He can run it however he wants. I happen to like power tools AND hand tools. I use hand tools for delicate work sometimes. I work with metal as well as wood. Sometimes I like to go slow with a hand saw and I get a straighter cut. This especially true when I’m methodical about using the ENTIRE blade for cutting

    Hi Ron! I just checked out some of the carved doors on your website. Incredible! Would you mind sharing what tools you use for beginners like me? Do you use a dremel? If so, which model do you recommend (if there's more than one...) Thank you!!

    wow!!! the depths of some of those reliefs are crazy!!!!!! i don't understand the grapes hanging lower than the front board/facade on the balcony however; how was this achieved? was the relief carved then the board itself shaped/cut? You sir are a master of your craft; stunning work that will be around for centuries ^.^

    • @carvedbyramsey
      @carvedbyramsey 9 років тому

      I add wood onto the surface to create the effect where the grapes hang below the edge.

    I need to join three planks of Utile Mahogany to get some depth to carve out a wooden boat hull. I am going to use the same method of glueing and clamping here, but was also considering dowelling through the layers. Would you recommend or not recommend this. The boat will be a display model. Thanks

    Sounds like the school of Brienz... I would love to be able to afford to go. Working a small business which i carve. Not really what i would like to carve, but in the least providing me the finances for sustainable living cost, and possibly getting to a goal of taking a course in traditional woodcarving in Switzerland, in Brienz. Right now, i have just come out of corrective heart surgery, and am on my way to full recovery. It will take me a few months before i will be abled for business restart, which will put me on track for financing the school of Brienz. The best of the best... I'm hopeful....

      When I was there, Switzerland would not issue visas for students under 30. I was 34 at the time so I was disappointed. Instead, I spent a year studying carvings by observation and working as a woodcarver to hone my skills. If you are under 30, make sure you do it before it's too late or maybe they have changed the rules since then.
